Our Proof !

Mr Tan, We got STARED at a lot, just for looking at ingredients on the back of products. I think Singaporean's need to chill, seriously.

Anyways ! Just wanted to thank you for this creative project, and we had lots of fun ! :D

Sodium hydroxide (NaOH) is a metallic base.

  • Sodium hydroxide is traditionally used in soap making, or cleaning agents.

Did you know ?

  • Solid sodium hydroxide or solutions of sodium hydroxide will cause chemical burns, permanent injury or scarring if it contacts unprotected human or animal tissue.
Wow, Mr Tan ! Luckily I only took in a slight amount in aqueous form :D

Sodium Bicarbonate

  • Sodium bicarbonate or sodium hydrogen carbonate is the chemical compound with the formula NaHCO3. It has a slightly salty, alkaline taste.
  • It is found in its dissolved form in bile, where it serves to neutralize the acidity of the hydrochloric acid produced by the stomach. However it is also produced artificially.
  • Sodium bicarbonate is primarily used in cooking (baking) where it reacts with other components to release carbon dioxide, that helps dough rise.
  • It is found in ' Kinder Joy ' and ' Palmolive : Thermal spa ' . One used for a baing purpose, whereas the other for hygiene purposes.

Zinc Oxide

Zinc oxide usually appears as a white powder, nearly insoluble in water. The powder is widely used as an additive into numerous materials and products including plastics, ceramics, glass, cement and rubber. It is found in : ' Centrum', a dietary tablet and ' Sports' : Suncreen lotion.

An interesting fact !
  • Zinc oxide is widely used to treat a variety of other skin conditions, However, many sunscreens use nano zinc oxide (along with nano titanium dioxide) which does get absorbed into the skin.

This could cause as of yet unknown health problems and requires further study.

Salicylic Acid

  • Salicylic acid is probably best known for its use in anti-acne treatments.
  • It has a impressively touch formula : C6H4(OH)COOH.
  • Salicylic acid is found in plants with roles in plant growth and development, photosynthesis, transpiration.

Mono-Sodium Glutamate ( MSG )

Mono-sodium glutamate
, also known as sodium glutamate and MSG, It is used as a food addictive and is commonly marketed as a flavour enchancer.

Other names of monosodium glutamate include : Ajinomoto, Vetsin, and Accent.

MSG is now used by most fast food chains and in many foodstuffs, particularly processed foods.

Used for :
  • Prepared stocks often known as stock cubes or bouillon cubes.
  • Condiments such as barbecue sauce and salad dressings.
  • Canned, frozen, or dried prepared food
  • Common snack foods such as flavoured jerky, flavoured potatoe chips.
  • Seasoning mixtures

Citric Acid

  • Citric acid is a weak organic acid. It is a natural preservative and is also used to add an acidic, or sour, taste to foods and soft drinks. It can also be used as an environmentally benign cleaning agent.

  • Citric acid exists in greater than trace amounts in a variety of fruits and vegetables, most notably citrus fruits. Lemons and limes have particularly high concentrations of the acid.

  • It is found in ' Minute Maid', a soft drink, and ' The Natural : Soft Jellies '. In both products, citric acid is used for flavouring.

Benzoyl Peroxide

  • Benzoyl peroxide is used for acne treatment. It is typically applied to the affected areas in gel or cream form.

  • It is found in found ' Oxy ' and ' Proactiv '. Both brands are for acne management.

  • Other common uses for benzoyl peroxide include dyeing hair, and as an active ingredient in teeth whitening systems.
